Most visitors to Chengdu end up at Jinli or Kuanzhai Alley at night, and miss the real food scene entirely. The city's night markets are scattered across neighborhoods, each with a different crowd, price point, and specialty. After digging through local guides, visitor reviews, and comment sections, here is the honest breakdown of where to go and why.
| Market | Best For | Budget |
|---|---|---|
| Fuxin | First Timers | ¥30-70 |
| Liulangwan | Cheap Eats | ¥20-60 |
| Sanse Road | Atmosphere | ¥70-150 |
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Fuxin Night Market (抚琴夜市) is the safest bet for a first night in Chengdu. It sits inside an old residential neighborhood in Jinniu District, with over 130 stalls lined along Fuxin North First Alley. The crowd is mostly local, families, young couples, older residents buying snacks after dinner.
Address: Jinniu District, Fuxin North First Alley (金牛区抚琴北一巷)
📍 Open in Amap — Fuxin Night Market (抚琴夜市)Metro: Line 5, Fuxin Station, Exit B1, walk about 100 meters
Hours: 17:00–23:30 (weekends may run later)
Price per person: ¥30–70
What makes Fuxin different is the lack of tourist markup. A portion of guoba potato (锅巴土豆), crispy fried potato cubes tossed in spicy-sweet sauce, costs ¥8–12. Handmade iced jelly (手工冰粉) runs ¥6–10. The stalls here have been operating for years; some are run by the same families for over a decade.
Must-try items:
Honest take: Fuxin is not the cheapest, but it is the most consistent. Every stall we checked had reasonable quality. The downside? It gets crowded after 19:30, and some lanes are narrow.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Jianshe Road Night Market (建设路夜市) sits next to the University of Electronic Science and Technology's Shahe campus. It is the original "internet-famous" night market in Chengdu, the one that put Chengdu street food on the map for younger travelers.
Address: Chenghua District, Mengzhuiwan Jianshe Alley 12 (成华区猛追湾建设巷12号)
📍 Open in Amap — Jianshe Road Night Market (建设路夜市)Metro: Line 6, Jianshe North Road Station, Exit C, walk about 70 meters
Hours: 18:00–01:00 (gets lively after 21:00)
Price per person: ¥40–80
This market is louder, more chaotic, and more crowded than Fuxin. The energy is high, people shouting orders, oil sizzling, music playing from phone speakers. It is not a place for a quiet evening. It is a place to eat standing up, walk fast, and try everything.
Must-try items:
TripChina.me Insight: Jianshe Road is where trends start. If a new snack goes viral in Chengdu, it appears here within weeks. The trade-off is price, some items cost 20–30% more than at Fuxin or Liulangwan.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Liulangwan Night Market (柳浪湾夜市) sits near Wenjiang University Town, about 40 minutes from the city center by metro. It is massive, over 1,000 stalls spread across multiple streets. The crowd is overwhelmingly students, which means prices are aggressively low.
Address: Wenjiang District, intersection of Liulangwan North First Street and Middle Yangliu West Road (温江区柳浪湾北一街与杨柳西路中段交叉口)
📍 Open in Amap — Liulangwan Night Market (柳浪湾夜市)Metro: Line 4, Yangliuhe Station, Exit C, walk 10 minutes
Hours: 16:00–23:00
Price per person: ¥20–60
The food here covers the entire country, not just Sichuan. You will find Guangxi snail noodles, Yunnan grilled tofu, Xinjiang lamb skewers, and Northeastern fried skewers all on the same street.
Must-try items:
Honest take: The quality varies more here than at Fuxin. Some stalls are excellent; some are average. Follow the queue rule, if students are lining up, it is worth trying. If the stall is empty, skip it.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Sanse Road Night Market (三色路夜市) is Chengdu's most fashionable night market. It runs along the Jin River, with neon lights, camping chairs, and car trunk stalls. This is not traditional street food, it is a outdoor party with food.
Address: Jinjiang District, Sanse Road (near Jin River Greenway) (锦江区三色路)

Hours: 19:00–02:00 (weekends busier)
Price per person: ¥70–150
The stalls here are more expensive than any other market on this list. A hand-pounded lemon tea costs ¥18–25. A street-side steak runs ¥40–60. You are paying for the atmosphere, the river breeze, the music, the Instagram-ready setup.
Must-try items:
Who this is for: Groups of friends, couples, anyone who wants photos and a relaxed vibe. Not for serious eaters looking for the best value.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆
Xiangxiang Alley (香香巷) is a tiny lane, less than 100 meters long, under 5 meters wide, packed with restaurants on both sides. Red lanterns, retro neon signs, and Chinese-style decorations make it one of the most photogenic food spots in Chengdu.
Address: Chenghua District, Wangping Street 25 (成华区望平街25号)
📍 Open in Amap — Xiangxiang Alley (香香巷)Metro: Line 2, Dongmen Bridge Station, Exit D2, walk 10 minutes
Hours: 17:30–22:30
Price per person: ¥60–130
This is not a walking-and-eating market. It is a place to sit down at a restaurant, order a full meal, and stay for a while. Some places have live music.
Must-try items:
Honest take: Xiangxiang Alley is more expensive than open-air markets. A meal for two with drinks can easily hit ¥200. But the atmosphere is unique, it feels like eating inside a movie set.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Xipu Night Market (犀浦夜市) sits near Southwest Jiaotong University and Xihua University. It is known for one thing: barbecue. Walk down the main street and you will pass a grill every three steps.
Address: Pidu District, Puxing Street 193 (郫都区浦兴街193号)
📍 Open in Amap — Xipu Night Market (犀浦夜市)Metro: Line 2 or 6, Xipu Station, Exit F, walk 10 minutes
Hours: 16:00–23:00

The barbecue here is cheaper than in the city center. A skewer of grilled beef runs ¥3–5. Grilled eggplant with garlic costs ¥12–15. The crowd is young, loud, and hungry.
Must-try items:
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Qianfeng Road Night Market (前锋路夜市) is a small market tucked under the Fuqing Road overpass. It is not famous. It is not on most tourist lists. But it is exactly what a neighborhood night market should be, cheap, direct, and no performance.
Address: Qianfeng Road Station Exit F (前锋路地铁站F口)
📍 Open in Amap — Qianfeng Road Night Market (前锋路夜市)Metro: Line 6, Qianfeng Road Station, Exit F
Hours: Evening until late
Price per person: ¥20–50
The stalls here are basic. Plastic tables, fluorescent lights, the smell of charcoal and chili oil. Most items cost ¥4–20. The Liangshan Grilled Baby Pig Meat (大凉山烤小猪儿肉) is the local favorite, fatty, crispy-skinned pork grilled over open flame.
Must-try items:
Best timing: Most markets start setting up around 17:00–18:00. Peak hours are 19:30–21:30. If you want fewer crowds, go after 21:30, some stalls even drop prices.
Payment: WeChat Pay and Alipay are standard. Cash works at most stalls, but bring small bills. Some older vendors may not have change for ¥100 notes.
Spice levels: Most Sichuan snacks are spicy. If you cannot handle heat, say "bu la" (不辣) for no spice or "wei la" (微辣) for mild. If you want extreme heat, say "bao la" (爆辣), but be warned.
Language: Most stall owners do not speak English. Pointing at the menu or showing a photo works. Download a translation app as backup.
Hygiene: Stick to stalls with long queues, high turnover means fresher ingredients. Chengdu night markets are generally clean, but sensitive stomachs should start with cooked or room-temperature items.
Drinks: Iced jelly (冰粉), liangxia (凉虾), and hand-pounded lemon tea are sold everywhere. They double as spice neutralizers.
Fuxin Night Market. It is authentic, affordable, easy to reach by metro, and has the widest variety of classic Chengdu snacks without tourist pricing.
¥20–80 per person, depending on the market. Liulangwan and Xipu are cheapest (¥20–60). Sanse Road and Xiangxiang Alley are most expensive (¥70–150).
Most stalls accept cash, but small bills are recommended. WeChat Pay and Alipay are more common.
Most open between 16:00–18:00. Peak atmosphere is 19:30–21:30. Some markets stay open past midnight on weekends.
Liulangwan Night Market. Student pricing means ¥20–60 per person can cover a full evening of eating.
Jinli is worth visiting for the atmosphere, ancient architecture, red lanterns, Sichuan opera, but the food is overpriced and average. Go for the experience, eat elsewhere.
All seven markets in this guide are within walking distance of a metro station. Check the specific line and exit for each market above.
Start with guoba potatoes, egg cakes, grilled skewers, and iced jelly. Then explore based on what looks fresh and has a queue.
