How to Book Chengdu Panda Tickets Without a Chinese Number—and Get Through the Right Gate

Booking panda tickets in Chengdu is easier than it looks—once you know which platform accepts passports and what to do if WeChat payment fails. This guide covers the three most useful options for international visitors: Chengdu Research Base, Dujiangyan Panda Valley and Ya’an Bifengxia. You’ll find current ticket rules, passport requirements, booking steps, payment backups and the practical details that matter at the gate.

As of September 2026, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding remains the easiest choice for most first-time visitors. Tickets can be reserved up to 14 days ahead, and the official daily capacity is 85,000 visitors. During major holiday periods, entry may temporarily pause when the number of visitors inside reaches 36,000.

Foreign visitors without a Chinese mobile number have an important backup: they may book through Trip.com. The Cash and Cards service window is another fallback, but only when unsold inventory remains. Do not rely on walk-up availability during busy weekends or Chinese public holidays.

How Do Foreigners Book Chengdu Research Base Tickets?

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (成都大熊猫繁育研究基地) is the most accessible panda site from central Chengdu. It has giant pandas, red pandas, nursery areas and a much larger collection of enclosures than most visitors expect.

For route planning once you are inside, including which entrance to use and how to improve your chances of seeing famous pandas, see our Chengdu Panda Base route guide.

What Are the Current Ticket Price and Opening Hours?

Location: 1375 Panda Avenue, Chenghua District, Chengdu
Chinese: 成都市成华区熊猫大道1375号

Adult ticket: ¥55
Student ticket: ¥27 for eligible students
Reservation window: Up to 14 days ahead
Daily capacity: 85,000 visitors
Tourist hotline: +86-28-83510033

From March through October, morning-ticket entry is 07:30–12:00, afternoon-ticket entry is 12:00–17:00, and the park begins clearing at 18:00.

From November through February, morning entry is 08:00–12:00, afternoon entry is 12:00–16:30, and clearing begins at 17:30.

These are the current official operating periods as of September 2026.

Children aged 6 or younger or 1.3 meters or shorter, and seniors aged 60 and above, are eligible for free entry under the current Chengdu Base policy. Bring the physical passport or other valid ID used to verify age and eligibility. Free-entry rules and document requirements can differ slightly between the three panda sites, so check the relevant booking page before visiting.

Monday note: No. 6 Giant Panda Villa is normally closed every Monday for the base’s rotational-rest program, except on national statutory holidays. The Panda Museum and Panda Art Museum are also normally closed on Mondays, except statutory holidays. Other panda areas remain available unless separately closed.

Do not use flash photography around panda enclosures.

Which Booking Channels Can Foreign Visitors Use?

The old advice that all third-party ticketing has disappeared is no longer correct.

As of September 2026, official channels include the Chengdu Panda Base WeChat account and Mini Program. Authorized platforms also include Meituan, Ctrip/Trip.com, Douyin, Tongcheng Travel, Chengdu Scenic Shuttle Bus and Chengdu Tourist Sightseeing Bus.

This is important for foreign travelers. Official notices provide a workaround for visitors without a Chinese mobile number: you may book through Trip.com. If tickets are still available, you can also try the Cash and Cards service window as a last resort.

The window is not a guaranteed walk-up ticket option. If online booking is possible, reserve before traveling to the base.

How Do You Book Through the Official WeChat Channel?

Search WeChat for:

成都大熊猫繁育研究基地

📍 Open in Amap — Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (成都大熊猫繁育研究基地)

Choose the verified official account or Mini Program rather than a similarly named travel agent.

The interface can change slightly after system updates, but the basic process is:

  1. Open the official account or Mini Program.
  2. Enter the ticket-booking section.
  3. Choose the visit date.
  4. Select a morning or afternoon ticket.
  5. Select the correct ticket type.
  6. Change the ID type to Passport (护照) if the form defaults to a Chinese ID card.
  7. Enter your name exactly as shown in your passport.
  8. Enter your passport number carefully.
  9. Add the required contact information.
  10. Complete payment.
  11. Save your order confirmation before leaving the app.

If the form keeps rejecting your passport number, check the ID-type dropdown first. Leaving it set to “Chinese ID Card” will cause the form to expect a mainland Chinese ID number.

Do not casually substitute another traveler’s passport number. The system uses real-name ticketing, and mismatched identity information can prevent entry.

What Should Passport Holders Do at the Entrance?

Passport holders should use the manual verification channel for visitors without a Chinese ID card.

Official 2026 guidance states that visitors using passports and certain other non-mainland ID documents should go to the “无身份证验票通道” — Entry Without an Original Chinese ID Card lane and present the relevant document or a photo of it for staff verification.

There is no need to look for a Chinese-ID self-service gate if you are entering with a passport.

I would still bring your physical passport whenever possible. A passport photo is an accepted fallback under the current Chengdu Base rules, but carrying the original removes unnecessary uncertainty if staff need additional identity verification.

Visitors holding an original Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card (外国人永久居留身份证) follow the staffed/document gate used for visitors with an original accepted ID document. Current official guidance specifically lists this card among documents that can be scanned for entry.

What If Chengdu Panda Tickets Are Sold Out?

First, check all official or officially authorized channels rather than assuming one sold-out screen means every channel has inventory.

If you are a foreign visitor without a Chinese phone number, check Trip.com.

The Cash and Cards service window is available only when unsold ticket inventory remains. It does not guarantee same-day admission, so do not travel to the base expecting to buy a ticket there during a busy weekend or Chinese public holiday.

During major holiday periods, book as early as possible. The official daily capacity can reach 85,000 visitors. A separate 36,000 instantaneous visitor limit may trigger temporary waiting outside even when the total daily quota has not been exhausted.

What Is the Refund Rule?

For unused Chengdu Base tickets, cancellation before 17:00 on the visit date is currently free.

From 17:00 on the visit date through the following 7 days, a 20% handling fee per ticket applies. After that period, unused tickets are automatically invalidated and are no longer refundable. Used tickets cannot be refunded. This is the rule currently published on the official Chengdu Panda Base ticket page as of September 2026.

Tickets are valid only on the scheduled visit date. An unused ticket cannot simply be carried over to another day.

Always check the order page before cancelling because ticket rules can be updated.

Is the Sightseeing Shuttle Worth It?

The park is larger and hillier than many first-time visitors expect.

The official sightseeing vehicle currently costs ¥30 per person. Summer ticket sales generally run from 07:30 to 17:30, with service ending at 18:00. Winter ticket sales run from 08:00 to 17:00, with service ending at 17:30.

For most first-time visitors, the shuttle is useful if you want to cover both the nursery areas and more distant enclosures without spending much of the visit walking. It is especially helpful for families, older travelers and anyone visiting during hot or rainy weather.

Shuttle ticket refund: Unused shuttle tickets can be refunded through the original booking channel before 17:30 on the visit date. After 14 days, the system automatically voids the ticket.

Note: Some third-party travel platforms have referenced a longer refund window. The Chengdu Base official ticket page currently states the 7-day rule. Verify the policy on your booking platform before cancelling.

Summer visitors should also remember that pandas dislike heat. During hot weather, keepers may move them into shaded or indoor areas depending on temperature and animal condition. The base directs visitors toward indoor viewing areas when heat affects outdoor activity.

How Do You Book Dujiangyan Panda Valley Tickets?

Dujiangyan Panda Valley (都江堰熊猫谷) feels noticeably different from the main Chengdu Base. The setting is greener and more compact, and it works especially well if your itinerary already includes Dujiangyan.

What Are the Key Booking Details for Panda Valley?

Location: No. 408, Yutang Section, Huanshan Tourism Road, Dujiangyan City
Chinese: 成都市都江堰市环山旅游路玉堂段408号

📍 Open in Amap — Dujiangyan Panda Valley (都江堰熊猫谷)

Adult ticket: ¥55
Half-price ticket: ¥27 for eligible visitors
Booking: Real-name reservation required
Reservation window: Next 7 days
Ticket release: Daily at 20:00 China local time
Daily capacity: 16,000 visitors — 8,000 morning / 8,000 afternoon
Official WeChat name: 熊猫谷
Contact: +86-28-87296600

Refunds: Refunds: Orders cannot be rescheduled. For an unused ticket, no service fee is charged for refunds requested before 22:00 on the day prior to the visit date. A 20% fee per ticket applies for refunds requested after 22:00 on the day prior to the visit date, within 7 days of the visit date. After that, the ticket is no longer refundable.

How Do You Find the Panda Valley Booking Page in WeChat?

Official WeChat Account: Chinese name “熊猫谷” (Panda Valley)

QR Code Access: Scan the QR code for “熊猫谷” (Panda Valley) on WeChat, or search for the Chinese name in WeChat search. You can also find it through the “Qingcheng Mountain and Dujiangyan (青城山都江堰)” official WeChat account as an alternative.

Detailed Booking Steps:

  1. Open WeChat → Tap “+” → Scan QR Code (扫一扫) to scan the official account QR code. If scanning is not possible, search for the Chinese name “熊猫谷” in WeChat search and select the verified official account.
  2. On the official account page, click Follow (关注) to follow the account.
  3. On the bottom menu of the official account, click “Tickets & Tour (购票游览)” → then select “Tickets & Booking (购票及预约)”.
  4. Select your ticket type (Adult, Child, Student, etc.) → Fill in your passport number (ensure it matches your original passport).
  5. Choose your desired visit date and time slot (Morning/Afternoon); you cannot enter outside the selected time slot.
  6. Make payment via WeChat Pay (bind an international credit card if needed).
  7. After successful payment, you will receive a confirmation message and a booking QR code. Save both for entry.

Entry Requirements

  • Show your original passport at the gate for verification. If you have a Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card, use the cardholder lane.
  • The rule of “one person, one ticket, one ID” applies; entry will be denied if the booking information does not match your ID document.
  • You can either scan the booking QR code or enter your passport number to verify your entry.

When Should You Visit Panda Valley?

Morning remains the safer choice if seeing active pandas matters to you. Temperature, feeding, weather and individual animal behavior all affect what you actually see.

Do not treat any exact “pandas are active from X to Y” window as a guarantee.

Panda Valley is particularly useful for travelers who want a quieter panda experience and are already spending time in Dujiangyan. If your only goal is seeing pandas during a short Chengdu stay, the main Chengdu Base remains easier logistically.

How Do You Visit Ya’an Bifengxia Panda Base?

China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda — Ya’an Bifengxia Base (中国大熊猫保护研究中心雅安碧峰峡基地) is the most time-consuming option in this guide, but it offers a forested setting very different from urban Chengdu.

Location: Bifengxia Scenic Area, Yucheng District, Ya’an, Sichuan

📍 Open in Amap — Ya’an Bifengxia Panda Base (雅安碧峰峡熊猫基地)

Chinese: 四川省雅安市雨城区碧峰峡景区
Scenic-area contact: +86-835-2318086 / +86-835-2318091

For navigation, search the Chinese name 中国大熊猫保护研究中心雅安碧峰峡基地 in Amap rather than relying on an old saved coordinate.

Booking Channels & Detailed Steps

① Official WeChat Account (Chinese: 碧峰峡景区; Bifeng Gorge Scenic Area)

QR Code Access: Scan the QR code for “碧峰峡景区” (Bifeng Gorge Scenic Area) on WeChat, or search for the Chinese name in WeChat search to find the verified official account.

Detailed Booking Steps:

  1. Open WeChat → Tap “+” → Scan QR Code (扫一扫) to scan the official account QR code. If scanning is not possible, search for the Chinese name “碧峰峡景区” in WeChat search and follow the verified account.
  2. Click Follow (关注) to follow the official account.
  3. On the bottom menu of the official account, look for“Tickets (购票)” or “Ticket Booking (门票预订)” and click it.
  4. Select your ticket type (Adult, Child, Panda Base Only, Combined Ticket, etc.) → Fill in your passport number and full name (as shown on your passport).
  5. Choose your desired visit date and time slot (if applicable).
  6. Make payment via WeChat Pay (bind an international credit card if needed).
  7. After successful payment, you will receive a booking confirmation and a QR code. Save the QR code for entry. If you need a reimbursement voucher, find the ticket collection QR code in “My Orders” on WeChat and scan it at the self-service machine in the visitor center to get a paper ticket.

② Alternative Booking Platforms

You can also book tickets via the “You Ya’an (游雅安)” Mini Program, Ctrip, Meituan, or Douyin (TikTok). The “You Ya’an” Mini Program supports online seat selection, while Ctrip offers random seat selection; Meituan and Douyin’s online seat selection functions are under testing, and you can contact customer service (18095096079) for seat selection assistance.

Do You Need a Separate Panda Base Ticket?

No separate panda-base admission is required when you purchase the correct Bifengxia Scenic Area ticket.

The Bifengxia Scenic Area ticket (including the panda base) is officially priced at ¥100 per person.

Do not confuse this with the separate Bifengxia Wildlife Park (碧峰峡野生动物世界 / 动物园), which has an official full ticket price of ¥180. The panda base is located within the Scenic Area, not the Wildlife Park.

When booking specifically to see pandas, choose the Scenic Area (风景区) ticket.

This is important for foreign travelers. Official notices provide a workaround for visitors without a Chinese mobile number: you may book through Trip.com. If tickets are still available, you can also try the Cash and Cards service window as a last resort.

For the official government pricing distinction between the Scenic Area and Wildlife Park, see Ya’an Municipal Government’s Bifengxia ticket information.

What Time Does Bifengxia Open?

Opening schedules vary seasonally and sometimes by day of the week.

Current listings generally show the Bifengxia Scenic Area operating from around 08:30, with final entry and closing times varying by season. The panda area itself may follow a narrower operating window.

Do not plan around an old fixed “11:30–13:30 panda rest period.” Panda activity varies. For the best chance of seeing pandas eating and moving around, arrive in the morning.

How Do You Get to Bifengxia from Chengdu?

Bifengxia is roughly 136 km from Chengdu, so it is better treated as a dedicated day trip rather than a half-day add-on.

One public-transport option is to travel from Chengdu toward Ya’an and then connect to Bifengxia. Direct or through-ticket tourist-bus services from the Xinnanmen (新南门) area may also operate, but schedules change, so check the current departure before relying on one.

By private car or DiDi, allow roughly two hours or more depending on traffic and your starting point in Chengdu.

How Should Foreigners Book Bifengxia?

Search WeChat for:

碧峰峡景区

Look for the verified Bifengxia Scenic Area account and enter the ticket section. Authorized Chinese travel platforms may also sell the Scenic Area ticket.

Make sure you are buying the 风景区 / Scenic Area product if your main purpose is visiting the panda base, not the separate Wildlife Park ticket.

Because Bifengxia is farther from Chengdu and its operating times can change seasonally, confirm the live ticket product and entry time before making the journey.

Bring your passport used for the reservation.

If you are traveling independently, the main question is not simply “Which base has the most pandas?” It is how much of your day you want to spend getting there.

For most first-time visitors staying in central Chengdu, the main base is the simplest. Panda Valley makes more sense when Dujiangyan is already in your itinerary. Bifengxia is better treated as a dedicated day trip.

What Should Foreign Visitors Know Before Booking?

What If WeChat Pay Rejects Your Foreign Card?

Do not wait until tickets are nearly sold out before testing your payment setup.

Foreign-issued cards can work through WeChat Pay, but payment failures still happen. Keep a backup method ready.

For the Chengdu Base, authorized platforms give you alternatives to the official Mini Program.

Before arriving in China, our WeChat Pay guide for foreign visitors explains setup and common payment problems. It is also worth keeping Alipay available; our China payment guide for foreigners explains how WeChat Pay, Alipay, international cards and cash fit together.

How Should You Get to the Chengdu Panda Base?

Take the metro toward the Panda Avenue area; our Chengdu Metro Guide for Foreigners explains tickets, payments and station navigation. From the metro, continue by local transport or DiDi depending on your chosen entrance.

During major holidays, traffic around the South Gate can become heavy. Official holiday notices have recommended public transport and, during some peak periods, using the West Gate to reduce entry queues.

For taxis and ride-hailing, our DiDi guide for foreign travelers explains how to use the app without relying on a Chinese phone number.

How Do You Reach Panda Valley?

From central Chengdu, travel toward Dujiangyan by rail and continue to Panda Valley by taxi or local transport.

Do not confuse Panda Valley (熊猫谷) with the main Dujiangyan scenic area. They are separate destinations.

If you are using Chinese trains for the first time, our China train guide for foreign travelers covers passport checks, station entry and boarding.

What Should You Save on Your Phone Before Leaving the Hotel?

Save your booking confirmation, Chinese destination name, passport details and the address of your panda base.

Do not depend entirely on Google Maps for last-mile navigation in China. Our China navigation app guide explains why Amap is usually more useful for entrances, metro exits and Chinese place names.

If you lose mobile data after landing in China, fix connectivity before attempting Mini Program bookings. Our No Internet After Landing guide walks through roaming, eSIM and Wi-Fi backups in the order I would try them.

Save an offline screenshot of your booking confirmation, in case mobile data fails near the park gate.

What Are the Basic Panda-Viewing Rules?

Keep your voice down around enclosures.

Do not feed, tease or attempt to touch the animals. Avoid flash photography and do not tap on glass barriers to get a panda’s attention.

The goal is simple: watch the pandas without changing their behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chengdu Panda Tickets

Can I Book Chengdu Panda Base Tickets Without a Chinese Phone Number?

Yes. The Chengdu Base offers official workarounds for visitors without a Chinese mobile number. See the booking-channels section above for the Trip.com option and the on-site fallback window, which is subject to ticket availability.

Can I Enter with a Photo or Scanned Copy of My Passport Instead of the Physical Original?

At the Chengdu Research Base, the current official policy allows passport holders using the manual “无身份证验票通道” lane to present the relevant document or a photo of it for verification.

Do not assume the same fallback applies everywhere. For Panda Valley and Bifengxia, carry your physical passport whenever possible because acceptance of a digital copy is not guaranteed under the same published rule.

Do I need to bring a printed copy of my ticket confirmation?

A digital confirmation saved offline on your phone works for entry. Printing is not required for any of the three panda sites.

My WeChat Mini Program Keeps Asking for a Chinese ID Number. Can I Still Use My Passport?

Yes. Check the ID-type dropdown in the booking form and change it from “Chinese ID Card” to Passport before entering your document number.

If the form is still locked to a mainland Chinese ID format, confirm that you are using the official Mini Program rather than a third-party booking interface.

Can I Enter the Chengdu Base by Scanning My Passport at an E-Gate?

Passport holders should use the staffed “无身份证验票通道” — Entry Without an Original Chinese ID Card lane. Staff verify the passport or permitted document photo manually.

Do not queue at a Chinese-ID gate expecting it to scan a foreign passport.

Can I Touch or Hold a Giant Panda in Chengdu?

No. Ordinary visitors cannot hold, pet or directly interact with giant pandas at the Chengdu Base, Panda Valley or Bifengxia.

Be suspicious of anyone outside the official sites promising a paid “panda holding” experience.

Can I See Hua Hua at Chengdu Panda Base?

Hua Hua (花花) lives at the Chengdu Research Base, but a famous panda’s viewing location, outdoor time and visibility can change.

Arrive early and check the current enclosure information after entering rather than planning your entire visit around an old social-media location. Our Chengdu Panda Base route guide explains the practical route for visitors hoping to see the base’s best-known pandas.

What Happens If I Miss My Morning or Afternoon Entry Slot?

Do not assume staff will automatically move you to another session. Tickets are issued for specific entry periods, particularly at the Chengdu Base.

If you miss your slot and the next session still has capacity, you can ask staff whether a manual adjustment is possible. Any adjustment is at the attraction’s discretion; a free reschedule is not guaranteed.

Are Pandas Still Worth Seeing in Hot Weather?

Yes, but summer changes the experience. Giant pandas are heat-sensitive, and keepers may move them indoors when temperatures become uncomfortable.

Morning is therefore even more valuable during hot months. If pandas have been brought inside, check the base’s indoor viewing areas rather than assuming there is nothing to see.

Can I Buy Multi-Day Tickets for These Panda Bases?

Standard admission is date-specific rather than a multi-day pass. If you want to make another ordinary visit, plan on making a separate reservation for that date.

The Chengdu Research Base does sell a separate annual pass, but that is a different ticket product from standard visitor admission.

Final Thoughts

For most international travelers, booking the Chengdu Panda Base is no longer a “WeChat or nothing” problem. The official system accepts passport-based reservations, authorized third-party platforms remain available, and foreign visitors without a Chinese mobile number have a specific Trip.com route.

The biggest mistake is waiting until the last minute during a busy weekend or Chinese holiday.

Book early, enter your passport details exactly, keep a backup payment channel ready, and go in the morning if seeing active pandas matters to you.

During Chinese national holidays, opening hours, entrance arrangements and instantaneous visitor limits may receive temporary adjustments. Always check the latest official announcement shortly before your visit.
